Faces of India - 11

My fascination with "Faces of India" continues. I feel that Indian people have expressive faces, making them photographer's delight. Colourful background provides added

dimension to the beauty of the face.

In today's post, I am uploading photographs of the people I have captured on the Indian streets in various situations.

Pol of Ahmedabad is a wonderful place for people watching.

Sometimes, you see really interesting and funny sights on the streets of India.

Donkeys also needed parking place!

Buffalo looked longingly at someone carrying sugarcane!

While one side of the road was occupied by the sugarcane sellers, other side had congregation of painters.

Turn the corner and you can see thread dyers, preparing thread for the approaching kite festival.

I've been waiting a long time
For this moment to come

For anything...at all

After 10 days statue of the goddess is submerged in the river. It is a very colourful festival and celbrated with much fanfare by certain communities.

Festival is played with colours, music and much merriment. Devotional songs are sung on the last day and people stay awake entire night for praying.

Bhadra Fort, Ahmedabad, India

Bhadra Fort was built by Sultan Ahmedshah around 1411 AD.

Above image shows inscription which narrates history of Bhadra fort. Many people believe that name "Bhadra" was given due to the fact that the premises has temple of Goddess Bhadrakali. While above inscription has different story to tell.

Huge wooden gate bears testimony to the past glory of the fort.

Solid Brick wall encloses the area.

Bhadra Fort Tower clock can be seen from miles away.

Inside the fort wall structure is crumbling and badly in need of repairs. Today one can see that restoration is in progress. Archaeological Survey of India's office is a;so situated in the complex apart from some government offices.

Beautiful arch detail inside the fort.

Wooden ceiling reminds one of old houses in old city "pols".

One can see glimpses of old glory in its crumbling walls.

Pigeons have made homes inside.

Inside the premises there is a door where people come and offer locks as it is believed that offering a lock fulfills your wishes!
